İngilizce aylar, tıpkı Türkçede olduğu gibi mevsimlere göre ayrılır. Mevsimler üçer aylık sürelerle birbirini takip eder. Dünyanın her yerinde mevsimler aynı değildir. Örneğin Kuzey Yarıküre’de ya da Avustralya’da mevsimler, bilinenin aksine, farklı hava koşullarına sahiptir.

İngilizce “sonbahar”, “autumn” ve “fall” olmak üzere iki isimle bilinir ki bunların ikisi de aynı anlama gelir. “Autumn”, British English’de daha yaygın olarak kullanılır. İngilizce ay isimleri büyük harfle, mevsimler ise küçük harfle başlar.

“On”
“On” ifadesi, özel bir tarihi belirtirken kullanılır. (Ayların büyük, mevsimlerin ise küçük harfle başladığını unutmayın.)

“At”
“At” ifadesi, yılın özel bir zamanını belirtirken kullanılır.
Many people enjoy spending time together at Christmas.

“This” / “Next” / “Last”
“This + season / month” bir sonraki aya veya mevsime işaret eder:
I’m going to go skiing this January.
We’re expecting snow this December.
“Next + season / month” gelecek ay veya mevsime işaret eder:
I hope to see you next March.
We’ll visit our friends next summer.
“Last + season / month” bir önceki yıla ya da aya karşılık gelir:
